Belcour Preserves Jamaica: A Taste of Tradition, Innovation, and Island Passion

Belcour Preserves has emerged as a benchmark for artisan Jamaican preserves, captivating both local and international gourmets. Based in the lush valleys above Kingston, this family-owned company crafts an array of hot pepper sauces, fruit preserves, chutneys, and savory condiments using only the freshest, locally grown produce. What sets Belcour apart is their signature infusion of Blue Mountain honey, harvested from on-site apiaries, which imparts a uniquely floral sweetness to every jar.

The Storied History of Belcour Preserves

Colonial Roots on an 18th-Century Coffee Estate

Belcour Preserves is nestled on a seven-acre plot of land that once served as an 18th-century coffee farm station, where beans were traded after descending the Blue Mountains. This estate, owned by the Lumsden family since 1998, boasts a tropical stream, flourishing fruit orchards, flowering vines, and a thriving apiary of over 75 bee colonies.

From Kitchen Hobby to Gourmet Brand

Robin and Michael Lumsden transformed their home-grown passion for cooking and gardening into a thriving enterprise. What began as experimenting with guava and citrus fruits on a stovetop became a full-fledged business by 2008, launching with a five-citrus marmalade and quickly expanding into a diverse range of preserves and sauces. Their philosophy? “Honey in everything,” a credo that drives both flavor and innovation in their recipes.

What Makes Belcour Preserves So Special

Locally Sourced, All-Natural Ingredients

Each Belcour product is crafted from Jamaican-grown fruits—mango, guava, pineapple, sorrel, and more—hand-picked at peak ripeness. They blend these with fresh scotch bonnet peppers, local herbs, and the estate’s own Blue Mountain honey, resulting in a condiment lineup free from preservatives, artificial colors, or stabilizers.

The Signature Blue Mountain Honey Infusion

At the heart of Belcour’s uniqueness is its use of Blue Mountain honey, known for its delicate, multi-floral notes. This honey is sourced directly from hives on the estate, where bees forage across a three-mile radius of rainforest, collecting nectar that lends complexity and depth to every sauce and preserve.

Small-Batch, Stovetop Craftsmanship

Belcour Preserves maintains strict small-batch production, ensuring meticulous quality control and artisanal attention. From sakusoko-style simmering of chutneys to the careful roasting of scotch bonnet peppers, each step is executed by skilled hands in their open-air kitchen, preserving authentic flavors and textures.
